Classes & Workshops
Please refer to the syllabus for specific details on class codes and categories.
The following is a summary of the events being held throughout the festival:
Technique Games: will be themed as the Olympics this year! Each station will involve a game that requires musical knowledge. There will be prizes and popcorn AND for those who do not know their stuff, maybe a booby prize!!
Students should prepare the requirements set out by the RCM or CC syllabus for their grade level. This level must be stated on the entry form so it can be incorporated into the games. Dress comfortably and bring a snack.
Repertoire Classes: These classes include any of the repertoire listed in any standard syllabus of graded piano music. There are categories for each grade, as well as for adults and late beginners.
Pop, Blues & Jazz: This category includes any form of modern music. This is a great opportunity for students who like to embellish their work or are working with improvisation. Of course, students who wish to enter a piece in any of these styles and perform it as written are always welcome.
Compositions: Written copies and/or a recording of the composition must be submitted to the festival committee. Copies will not be returned, so please do not send in originals. The music is expected to be the student’s work, though the teacher may help in transcribing. A professional standard of recording is not necessary and recording quality will not be part of the adjudication. Recordings may be submitted on CD or cassette. Students should expect to perform their piece during the festival.
Combo Class: Anything goes for collaboration in this class. There must be one piano in the ensemble, but the style of music and choice of instruments is completely up to the students.
